Introducing Goolwa

At the point where Australia’s largest river, the Murray, enters the ocean, charismatic Goolwa pulls in the punters from far and wide with visitors lazing about on the best beach on the southern coast. But there’s plenty of other activities including skydiving, Coorong cruising, fishing and sampling some fine hand-crafted beers from the local microbrewery. Whales (and dolphins) can be seen in season and artists revel in the glorious sunsets.

Goolwa visitor centre (8555 1144; The Wharf; 9am-5pm) has plenty of literature and an interpretive centre (adult/child/family $5.50/2.75/13.20) with interactive displays on the life and ecology of the Murray River.
