Lonely Planet review for Parque Temaikén
Outside Buenos Aires is the exceptional zoo, Parque Temaikén. Only the most charming animal species are on display (think meerkats, pygmy hippos and white tigers), roaming freely around natural enclosures. An excellent aquarium comes with touch pools, and plenty of interactive areas provide mental stimulation. Taxis from the center cost around AR$120 and take 40 minutes, or grab bus 60 marked ‘Escobar’ from Plaza Italia.

Bioparque Temaiken
marcopolo3 recommends this,
Just visited Temaiken this December, beautiful place, with first-rate animal exhibits and spacious, green enclosures which make both animals and visitors feel comfortable (well, at least the animals look like they might be comfortable, i.e. the young tigers were playing around and jumping on each other instead of pacing around, and the toucans would come and check you out). Highly recommended as a relaxing day out to escape the noise and pollution of BA. However, be forewarned that bus #60 which takes you to the park from Plaza Italia can take up to 2 1/2 hours if you happen to hit the rush our, and the taxi can be expensive (150 argentine pesos or about 40 US each way), although it took us only 40 minutes this way. If your hotel offers a tour with transportation there and back it might be worth to take it.
