Don’t despair if you’re not staying at the otherworldly Philippe Starck–designed Faena Hotel + Universe. You can still get a feel for the place at the antique-strewn, shabby-chic (emphasis on chic ) El Mercado, where the stylish set digs into ceviche (raw fish), rack of lamb and empanadas baked in an adobe mud oven. The award-winning chef Mariano Cid de la Paz presides over the place and El Bistro, its more flamboyant (and expensive) sister across the hall – walk by to catch a glimpse of the blindingly white space punctuated with blood-red accents and whimsical plaster unicorns.
