Red Square
Good for: atmosphere, history
Lonely Planet review for Red Square
Immediately outside the Kremlin’s northeastern wall is the celebrated Red Square, the 400m by 150m area of cobbles that is at the very heart of Moscow. Commanding the square from the southern end is St Basil’s Cathedral. This panorama never fails to send the heart aflutter, especially at night.

Absolute must-see of Moscow
irene_adler recommends this,
Get thee to Red Square at least twice (once during the day, once at night) and take in this quintessential piece of Moscow.
Russian police are out and about so make sure you're not doing anything untoward. Friends of mine had to negotiate a 'fine' for engaging in the very Russian pastime of drinking a beer in public there.
