The Hobbit hole may be the perfect place for travellers who are looking to relax in the countryside, with Kristie’s listing saying that, “the majority of your neighbours will be deer, rabbits, birds and grouse. It’s two miles up the mountain and although there are houses in the area, it gets more remote the closer you get to the Hobbit hole.”

The house also features a cosy fire for guests to warm themselves by.

The property posed many challenges throughout the construction process, as a section of the mountain literally had to be carved out to make way for the build. A layer of gravel and plastic was laid out to act as a foundation, while treated lumber and sheeted plywood was used to create the shape. Care was taken to ensure that the structure would be able to support the earth that would be sitting on top of it, while a special wrapping was used to guard the house from ice and rain.

The final steps in the build saw a corrugated metal roof being added, along with French drains all around the house, which was then fitted with different rustic, middle-earth inspired furnishings either built by hand or bought at second-hand markets.
