Casa De Marta
A spotless three-room homestay in the heart of Mata Ortiz (no street signs) where you are really made to feel like part of the family. Even the locals will tell you how good Marta’s cooking is.
Hotel Palacio Real
This 1950s giant is the only hotel on the Plaza de Armas. Its faded but large rooms, some with large views too, are a reasonable budget choice.
Hotel Casa Grande Sierra
Madera’s newest hotel has spacious orange-and-white carpeted rooms, and a decent restaurant. They rent out a 4WD holding up to eight people for M$6 per kilometer.
Hotel Alpino
Once you locate this bright-green hotel’s entrance (on Ojinaga) you’ll find bare but large and good-value rooms.
Hotel Calvete
Eight shortish blocks east of the Plaza de Armas, this is the best hotel in the central area. It’s large and well kept, with good-sized, bright rooms that were probably stylish in the 1980s, and a restaurant.
Hotel Parador De La Sierra
Just 2½ short blocks from the bus station, this is the best deal in town. The well-kept, good-sized rooms come with TV and effective gas heaters, and the whole place is decked with historic and Mexican cinema photos.
