Hotel Amrapali Vihar
Hotel Amrapali Vihar, a BSTDC hotel with rudimentary rooms, squat toilets and no hot water, is in a peaceful location. As it’s the only hotel here, you need to book ahead in season.
Hotel Siddharth
Situated near hot springs, Siddharth has a pleasant walled courtyard, good-sized rooms and an enjoyable restaurant.
Bnr Guesthouse
The best-value hotel in Ranchi. This red-tiled terracotta-roofed Raj relic is a most pleasant haven. The large rooms and bathrooms have been pleasantly renovated with modern furniture and equipment, and the service is very friendly.
Swiss Cottages
BSTDC in Patna erects temporary straw huts prosaically called Swiss Cottages. They come with twin beds and plumbed-in private bathrooms.
Rajgir Residency
A top-end choice offering expensive luxury for tour guests.
Hotel Kaveri
Hotel Kaveri has the cleanest rooms when compared to other hotels.
Hotel Amrit
A cheap option but with unremarkable rooms. Checkout is 24 hours.
Hotel Windsor
This is Patna’s best mid-range hotel, with well-designed rooms, spotless bathrooms, cheery and prompt service, good restaurant and internet centre. With a bar it’d be perfect.
Shanti Guest House
Several guest houses back onto the Kalachakra Maidan. Shanti Guest House has simple rooms, the cheaper having shared bathrooms.
Hotel Birsa Vihar
Jharkhand Tourism’s hotel was undergoing badly needed renovation at the time of research.
Hotel Capitol Hill
A classy upmarket hotel in the Capitol Hill shopping complex. The ultra-modern 3rd-floor lobby with cream leather chairs complements equally modern rooms with a Scandinavian touch and wi-fi. The restaurant and bar are also Ranchi’s most stylish.
Centaur Hokke Hotel
Surrounded by lovely manicured gardens, this is Bihar’s unique sleeping experience. Most of the rooms are furnished Japanese-style with tatami mats instead of beds, teak furniture and Eastern decor.
Hotel Maurya Patna
Fine appointments and luxurious surroundings distinguish Patna’s top business hotel. The large gardens host a tempting pool (Rs350 for non-guests), and there are two good restaurants and a bar.
Hotel Embassy
One of the few budget places along Station Rd to accept foreigners; the comfortable AC rooms are refreshingly contemporary and decently clean. It’s a goodie.
Hotel Gautam Vihar
One of three Bihar Tourism (BSTDC) hotels in town, this is well located between the bus and train stations, and the spacious, clean rooms have lounge chairs, TV and hot water.
