    Enormous bookshop with a small café and reasonable English-language fiction and travel books. Internet access costs around Dh5 per hour. It's near Al-Qasba Canal.

  2. Central Souq

    Central Souq, also called the Blue Souq or New Souq, is one of the best in the country. The bargains are to be found in the little shops on the upstairs balconies, specialising in carpets from Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey, Kashmiri pashminas, and silver Bedouin jewellery from Oman, Yemen, Afghanistan and India.

  3. Gold Centre

    Also worth a wander is the glittering Gold Centre, on the corner of Sheikh Humaid bin Saqr Al-Qassimi Rd and Al-Wahda Rds, which has scores of stores selling gold jewellery.

    In the Heritage Area, the old Souq al-Arsa is the most atmospheric souq in the UAE and one of the few selling authentic antiques and collectables from pre-oil times, and the early development days. You'll also find good quality handicrafts, carpets and souvenirs that you'll pay a fraction of the price for than you would in Dubai.
