This characterless monolith is a bit overpriced, but it's within spitting distance of the main sights, in a tranquil street and sports serviceable rooms with good bathrooms.
Erzurum has a couple of dependable budget and midrange options, but if you want full-on luxury you'll need to stay at the Palandöken ski resort, 5km south of Erzurum.
This characterless monolith is a bit overpriced, but it's within spitting distance of the main sights, in a tranquil street and sports serviceable rooms with good bathrooms.
If the Yeni Çınar is full, the adjoining Çınar is an OK runner-up, with greenish, smartish rooms and well-scrubbed bathrooms. No breakfast is served.
This place may not look like much, but it's clean, safe, quiet and within walking distance of everything you might need. Avoid the rooms at the rear, which have obstructed views. Breakfast is not included.
Just off Cumhuriyet Caddesi, the Kral is a brave attempt at modern-meets-traditional décor. The façade is a bit off-putting but the rooms make up in visuals what they lack in size.
Pros: right on the main thoroughfare and close to everything . Cons: right on the main thoroughfare, a bit noisy (traffic ceases around 11pm). That said, it's well maintained and efficiently run and has excellent breakfast too.
In business since 1967, the two-star Polat has benefitted from a recent renovation. The small rooms have large fridges and sunken beds, plus bath and shower in the en-suites.
The pros of staying here include cheap prices and a brilliant location, smack bang in the centre. The cons include a meagre breakfast, unadorned rooms and a migraine-inducing pinkish colour pattern.
The Yeni Ornek is as no-frills as it gets but the rooms are well kept and the staff pleasing, making it a reliable lower-midrange option.
On a street with half a dozen budget and lower midrange hotels, the Hitit has Erzurum's pleasantest rooms – with plasma-screen TV, dark wood furnishings, well-sprung mattress, big shower, minibar and safe.
The newest and most stylish, with great views of Erzurum.
