Restauracja Jadka
Behind what is arguably the best restaurant in town is Magda Gessler, the country’s top female chef. Expect impeccable modern versions of Polish classics and silver-service table settings (candles, crystal, linen) in delightful Gothic surrounds. The set lunch available Monday to Saturday is a snip at 35zł.

Darea
With management at the LG Electronics factory in Kobierzyce (south of Wrocław) top-heavy with Koreans, it was inevitable that they’d demand their own place for authentic Korean dishes like bibimbab and bulgogi. You won’t find better Korean anywhere in Poland.

Stp
Short for ‘Szybko, Tanio, Pysznie’, the name says it all: ‘Fast, Cheap, Delicious’. This is one of those cafeteria-style eateries that sells food by weight – 2.40zł for 100g – and it’s surprisingly good.

Sankt Petersburg
If you thought Russia’s culinary traditions were limited to stroganoff and blinis, then this slightly formal restaurant will be a revelation. Meat, fish and game prop up the high-powered menu, along with the requisite kaviar (65zł).

Mercado
This offspring of the prodigious Sphinx chain has a more rustic feel to it, with rough-hewn walls and handmade ceramics. The menu’s a familiar mix of Middle Eastern and Italian platters, plus a smattering of Greek, Syrian and Asian efforts.

Kawiarnia Pod Słodką Borówka
If you’re after a heart-starter, try the kawa (coffee) and cakes here. It serves great apple strudel (9.90zł) and there’s a curious collection of old hats on the wall.

Pekin
OK, Chinese but kuchnia sichuańska (Sichuan cuisine) ? Uh-uh. Still, it’s one of Wrocław’s very few Chinese eateries and relatively authentic.
