Guesthouses and B&Bs
Inkaterra La Casona
Hitting the perfect balance of cozy and high style, this renovated grand colonial in tiny Plazoleta Nazarenas is simply debonair...
Thought has been put into this big backpacker haven that’s a stone’s throw from Plaza Regocijo. One of the all-inclusives (with bar, pool room and sunbathing), it ups the ante by being clean, friendly and service-minded...
Loreto Boutique Hotel
Maybe you’re paying for the plaza location, since ‘boutique’ is an overstatement here. Dimly-lit in daytime, Loreto has well-heeled, snug rooms bathed in neutrals. The best feature are the four rooms with surviving Inca walls.
Casona Les Pleiades
A pleasant French-run B&B with a sunny courtyard featuring fresh flowers and balcony seating. The buffet breakfast is served in cozy booths. Heaters and lockboxes are supplied in rooms.
Yanantin Guest House
This small guesthouse has an assortment of well-heeled rooms large enough for desks and coffee tables. Organic toiletries are offered and the comfy beds feature cotton sheets and down bedding. A good value.
Hotel Del Prado Inn
Del Prado is a solid option, with efficient staff and just over a dozen snug rooms reached by elevator. Some have tiny balconies with corner views of the plaza. Check out the original Inca walls in the dining room.
Hostal Suecia I
Most rooms in this pint-sized guesthouse are very basic, but location and staff are fabulous and there’s a sociable, stony, indoor courtyard. The two newer doubles on the top floor (311 and 312) are a good value.
In a bustling commercial district, this small hotel has agreeable staff and tiny, well-kept and airy doubles. The triples are a little too tight.
Los Angeles B&B
This old colonial sports worn rooms with gold bedspreads and dark, carved furniture around a central courtyard.
Hospedaje Familiar Munay Wasi
This friendly, homey family inn is housed in a ramshackle adobe building without a single right angle to its name. Room 201, which has huge windows, minibalconies and a magic view of downtown Cuzco, is understandably popular with families...
Surprisingly light inside, this cozy, impeccably clean little place is hidden behind a forbidding wall.
This newish bed and bakery features fresh bread daily at 5am. From the looks of it, few of the guests have theirs hot (though breakfast is included)...
Second Home Cusco
A cozy boutique lodging with three chic suites, featuring original artwork, adobe walls and skylights...
Feeling luxurious but also lived-in, this antique French-owned guesthouse gives a real feel for Cuzco, down to the Inca stonework. Tasteful rooms with original murals and tapestries overlook a vast courtyard paved in river stones...
Casa De La Gringa
This laid-back hostel is a spiritual, New Age retreat overrun by a garden of healing plants. In the main house, the funky rooms are wildly colorful. There's a mixed-sex dormitory for backpackers, a shared kitchen, and a TV-and-games lounge...
While it’s pretty pricey for what you get, this colorful Italian-owned lodging is snug, with quixotic, bright rooms and a cave-like cushioned lounge. Has an in-house responsible-travel operator, and sponsors community projects. Entrance is on Resbalosa.
Torre Dorada Residencial
With lovely and original decor in bright colors, Torre Dorada is a modern, family-run hotel in a quiet residential district close to the bus terminal. Though it isn’t close to the action, guests rave about the high quality of service...
Orquidea Real Hostal
Owned by a package-tour company, this efficiently run small guesthouse has rustic rooms with working fireplaces, exposed wooden beams and skyline views over the city...
Pisko & Soul
This Peruvian hostel goes for the Spanish language school formula, with free lessons, evening events and barbecues. Small dorms have snug down covers but the bathrooms could use some bleach.
Mama Simona Hostel
A new player in town, this hostel is styled for hipsters, with a crushed velvet sofa and oddball decor. Beds have nice down covers and the shared kitchen with picnic tables is undoubtedly cute, but we wish it were a little cleaner...
Hostal El Grial
A good value in a rickety old wood-floored building; all rooms have orthopedic mattresses and some have views.
Tierra Viva Cusco San Blas
Located 200 metres from San Blas Square and Cathedral, Tierra Viva Cusco San Blas offers accommodations in Cusco. Free WiFi access is available here. Rooms at Tierra Viva Cusco San Blas feature heating, a private bathroom and cable TV...
