The region in southern Spain sees more than 320 sunny days each year, according to The Local Spain. The distinction was confirmed in a report from the national meteorological agency.

The area, with its many beaches, draws in many tourists to the Andalucía region. It actually gets more hours of shining sunlight than the Canary Islands, a collection of islands located off the coast of northwest Africa. Costa del Sol sees about 2905 hours of sun each year, while the Canaries only garner about 2822.

The city of Málaga is deemed to have the best climate in the country, with about 3000 hours of sun a year – the most in all of Spain. It is also noted for having a mild climate due to the sea, which help keeps the temperatures tolerable through the year.

But if you’re in Europe and planning a beach vacation, be aware that the country also boasts the most expensive beach destination in Europe.
