Lonely Planet review for Avenue des Champs-Élysées

Av des Champs-Élysées (the name refers to the ‘Elysian Fields’ where happy souls dwelt in the hereafter, according to Greek myth) links place de la Concorde with the Arc de Triomphe. The avenue has symbolised the style and joie de vivre of Paris since the mid-19th century and today is most popular with international brands looking to promote their prestige. While you can safely give Gap and Benetton a miss, some of the car showrooms are somewhat off-the-wall (with racing simulators, futuristic models, éclair bars and wi-fi zones) and can be a fun, if slightly bizarre, experience.

there are better places in Paris

    melyuan does not recommend this,

The name has its lustre, but the street's lost its. Stick to the start, the end, and off the C-E.

Go for the cinemas, don't stay too long on the Ave.

    janenet recommends this,

America has colonised much of the Avenue these days, though admittedly it's great if you want to shop at Sephora and Zara, and eat lunch at McDonald's. There are food gems along the way, but you have to work to find them.

Stroll away from the Arc de Triomphe and the world will open up once more. The Ave is great for cinemas - there must be more per square metre than anywhere else in the world. With everything from blockbusters in English (with subtitles) to French offerings, it's a great place to spend a rainy Paris day.

Taking a stroll towards the Arc de Triamphe is awesome. So many shops. In the mix, there are affordable once too, like Gap .
Pauls is a good eatery. Just walk and take in the life!
