This modern tower is a bit disconcerting at first - entering, it seems to be a modest office building. Not much in the way of services but rooms and (harried) staff are up to snuff.
A ten-minute walk from the train station through a maze of cloverleafing roadways brings you to the best budget option in the south of town.
This place has improved its attitude to match its well-kept rooms (and was planning some makeovers). At a recent check it was offering steeper discounts than most.
This hotel has a fairly drab facade, but the interior has been remodelled in a tasteful fashion, with marble floors, jade sculptures and Chinese art hanging from the walls. Rooms are well maintained and have excellent bathrooms.
A crackerjack staff, splendidly detailed rooms and five-star facilities and services make this Hong Kong establishment the place to stay in Ürümqi. Winter rates drop as low as around Y520.
This place attached to the train station complex used to be called the Yà'ōu Bīnguǎn and has recently renovated itself into midrange level accommodation; most everything works here! Twins are quite nice, but you simply must negotiate a discount.
This elegant high-rise hotel has a sauna, cafe, art gallery, wine bar and restaurant. It even has its own zoo with rare animals including Przewalski horses (wild horses indigenous to Central Asia).
Behind the Parkson Shopping Mall (Yǒuhǎo Bǎishèng Gòuwùzhōngxīn), centrally located Màitián has doubles and dorms, some with private bathrooms. The shared bathrooms and the lounge are pretty grotty, but the rooms do get a regular cleaning.
If you can overlook the peeling paint, loose wallpaper and generally scruffy appearance this is an OK place to stay in the city centre. Big discounts are usually available. It's right by Hongshan intersection, the drop-off point for airport buses.
Quietly located behind People's Park, this chain hotel has nothing surprising, but it represents good value with its ultra-neat rooms and free breakfast.
