Introducing Zhōngwèi

Zhōngwèi lies 167km southwest of Yínchuān on the Lánzhōu–Bāotóu railway, between the sand dunes of the Tengger Desert (Ténggélǐ Shāmò) to the north and the Yellow River to the south. In addition to its unusual setting, Zhōngwèi has a fairly relaxed pace – a nice change from the rush of most Chinese cities.

    Two excellent ideas, @egjeg. Zhongwei does look good, and stopping at Jiayuguan on the way up from Xining to Dunhuang makes very good…

    I enjoyed Zhongwei more than Yinchuan. The Xixia tombs aren't that exciting, and the western film studios are really kitchy. Why not…
