Postal fans and Christmas enthusiasts rejoice – London’s Postal Museum’s most beloved attraction, the Mail Rail, has had a stunning festive makeover. From now until 05 January, the 15-minute underground train ride, chronicling London’s postal history, will feature festive projections.

Once part of the Royal Mail’s subterranean shuttle system, visitors to the museum can now ride this historic mode of transport while gazing at broadcasts of the first King’s speech on the BBC and festive wishes sent around the world from times gone by.

If that isn’t enough excitement, The Postal Museum will also be running a number of Christmas-themed events and activities above ground as well. Already a firm family-favourite attraction, little ones can now print their own wrapping paper, make festive cards and learn calligraphy.

The Post Office Railway was built in 1927 to beat traffic congestion (anything to be said for reinstating it today?) and used to move four million items of post beneath London’s streets before it was shut in 2003. You need to pop over the street to get to The Postal Museum, opened in 2017, where various festive fun will be happening, and you can also dress up in post office uniforms from the past!
