Lonely Planet review for Daniel
This chichi French palace features floral arrangements and wide-eyed foodies who gawk over plates of peekytoe crab and celery-root salad, foie gras terrine with gala apples and black truffle-crusted lobster - and that's just the first course. There's an all-veggie menu, too.

An Extra Star?

We went to a few elegant restaurants in Feb '08. Daniels was our favorite. We didn't have reservations. It was Monday, and they offered us a table, but we wanted to sit in the lounge.
Their Pisco Sour signature drink was amazing. Just the right balance of alcohol to the rest of the ingredients.
We ordered 3 appetizers. One was a soup. I swear the butter in this seafood concoction was special, not anything one could buy at the local supermarket.
In between the appetizers, the waitstaff continued to bring us little treats, elegant bar food, gratis. At the end, we received an assortment of one bite desserts. 6 of them, also free. My husband and I managed to take small bites so we could share.
We promised to return. I'm a school teacher , my husband is an artist. We do not have a lot of money. But if you can save up for this place, do so. What price can one put on magic?Good for: atmosphere, food, service

Still great

I went to Daniel once in 2003 and once in 2008. The service and food is just as good as it was in 2003. It's the perfect place to spend a long, relaxed, decadent evening eating multiple courses with someone you'd like to have a long conversation with. It's also the type of place that has something for everyone; if you don't like heavy, saucy foods there are lighter dishes (like very good fish). It is really expensive though, of course.
