The Space Coast/USA

Introducing The Space Coast

They call the Titusville–Cocoa Beach–Melbourne area the Space Coast because it’s home to NASA, but it could just as easily be referring to the miles of undeveloped beaches and protected national parkland, where space is one thing you can find plenty of. The highlight for techies and nontechies alike is the Kennedy Space Center, the only spot in the US from which humans have been hurled into space. Once the fictional home of NASA astronaut Major Nelson and his genie in the iconic 1960s TV series I Dream of Jeannie, the Space Coast is also a magnet for surfers, with Florida’s best waves. Visitor information is available through Florida’s Space Coast Office of Tourism (877-572-3224; www.space-coast.com; 430 Brevard Ave, Suite 150).
