Laugarfell

Top choice in Inland

Laugarfell is 2km off Rte 910 (OK for 2WD cars) and beckons with hot springs (adult/child 1500/500kr) and a cosy guesthouse. Formerly a hostel, the place has moved more upmarket with twin and family rooms (sleeping up to six) and all linen supplied. Note: there's no kitchen, but breakfast (1900kr) and dinner (3500kr) are available, and daytime sandwiches and cakes offered.

Laugarfell operates with the Wilderness Center as the start/end point for the Waterfall Trail, which stretches between the two properties and is a glorious six-hour hike along a 20km stretch of river. There is also the Waterfall Circle – a 7km marked circuit hike from the guesthouse.

June and September prices are 10% lower. Campers are welcome (2500kr per person). In winter, the guesthouse can be rented in its entirety.
