Introducing North of Toamasina

This tasty little slice of Mada's coast will satisfy those seeking a little quietude. Just north of Toamasina, beyond the well-kept zoo at Ivoloina, is the sleepy little resort town of Mahavelona (Foulpointe). Feel free to relax, but don't swim away from the hotel area, unless you want to personally feed the sharks. Further on, there is good swimming at Mahambo and the clove-scented town of Fenoarivo-Atsinanana. The area also contains some atmospheric reminders of the past, including a well-preserved fort just north of Mahavelona and a ruined pirate fort near Fenoarivo.
