Introducing Line Islands
The largest of the line islands is Christmas Island, or Kiritimati, named Christmas Island by Captain Cook for his visit that occurred on 24 December 1777. It's a tropical heaven with shimmering salt flats, lagoon shallows and coconut palms.

Also among the islands are Washington (Teraina) and Fanning Island (Tabuaeran).
