Introducing Kilcar, Carrick & Around

Kilcar (Cill Chártha) and its more attractive neighbour Carrick (An Charraig) make good bases for exploring the breathtaking coastline of southwestern Donegal, especially the stunning sea cliffs at Slieve League.

This is fantastic walking country, particularly if you don't mind hoofing up and down a few hills. Kilcar Tourism has some pointers for walking the Kilcar Way; ask at the Áislann Chill Chartha, a community centre that provides information for tourists. Just outside Kilcar is a small, sandy beach.

Local information is available at the excellent Slieve League Cliffs Centre, which also has an artisan cafe and crafts gallery. The centre runs one- and three-day archaeology and hill-walking courses. From Carrick, follow the narrow road towards Teelin Pier, and turn right at the Rusty Bar pub.
