Introducing Mandrem

Mellow Mandrem has in recent years become an in-the-know bolt-hole for those seeking respite from the relentless traveller scene of Arambol and Anjuna and, as such, is growing busier year by year. So far it has resisted large-scale expansion, with rare olive ridley marine turtles still turning up annually to lay their eggs in its soft sands – but go now, before it’s completely consumed by rows of beach shacks fronted by rows of sun loungers, as has happened elsewhere on the north coast. The beach, right now, is still wide and beautiful, and there’s little to do but laze on, and here’s hoping it stays that way. Recent developments on the beach road, including plentiful bike hire places, and a spate of small supermarkets and souvenir stands, suggest the times may well finally be a-changin’ in Mandrem.
