Versailles Getting there & around

Getting there & away

RATP bus 171 (€1.40 or one metro/bus ticket, 35 minutes) links Pont de Sèvres (15e) in Paris with the place d’Armes every eight to 15 minutes daily, with the last bus leaving Versailles just before 1am. Be aware that it’s faster to go by RER and you’ll have to get to/from Pont de Sèvres metro station on line 9 if you take the bus.

RER line C5 (€2.55) takes you from Paris’ Left Bank RER stations to Versailles-Rive Gauche station, which is only 700m southeast of the chateau and close to the tourist office. The last train to Paris leaves shortly before midnight. RER line C8 links Paris’ Left Bank with Versailles-Chantiers station, a 1.3km walk from the chateau.

SNCF operates up to 70 trains a day from Paris’ Gare St-Lazare (€3.40) to Versailles-Rive Droite, which is 1.2km from the chateau. The last train to Paris leaves just after midnight. Versailles-Chantiers station is also served by some 30 SNCF trains a day (20 on Sunday) from Gare Montparnasse; all trains on this line continue to Chartres (€9.90, 45 to 60 minutes).
