Lonely Planet review

On the west side of the Eaton Centre is the oasis-like Trinity Square, named after this welcoming Anglican church. When it opened in 1847, it was the first church in Toronto not to charge parishioners for pews, thanks to an anonymous English benefactress who was reportedly quite taken with the bishop.

Today it's a cross between a house of worship, small concert venue and a community drop-in centre - everything an inner-city church should be. Don't miss the Christmas pageant if you're in town in December. Also in the square is a labyrinth and Henry Scadding House (1862), which some believe is haunted by the benign ghost of the first rector. It's not open to the public, so you can't go inside and flush him out. It opens its doors on summer Music Mondays for wonderful medieval, classical, folk and modern music performances.
