Places in Southern Vancouver Island
At the peninsula's northern end, seafront Sidney is studded with 10 or so bookshops, enabling it to call itself BC's only 'Booktown.' It takes an hour to get here by transit bus from Victoria ($2.50, number 70 or 72) and the heart of the town is Beacon Ave. Drop into the friendly chamber of commerce when you arrive for tips.
Juan de Fuca Provincial Park
The 47km Juan de Fuca Marine Trail in Juan de Fuca Provincial Park rivals the West Coast Trail as a must-do trek. From east to west, its trailhead access points are China Beach, Sombrio Beach, Parkinson Creek and Botanical Beach. It takes around four days to complete the route, but you don't have to go the whole hog if you want to take things easier.
