Catedral de Pedra

Top choice in Rio Grande do Sul

Bigger and more dramatic than Gramado's stone church, this English Gothic stone cathedral dominates Canela's main square.

The church features a 65m-high tower and a carillon of 12 bells made of Italian bronze as well as a Last Supper–themed altar carved in wood by Uruguayan sculptor Julius Tixe. It was elected one of the Seven Wonders of Brazil in 2010.
