Introducing Daylesford & Hepburn Springs
Set among the scenic hills, lakes and forests of the Central Highlands, Daylesford and Hepburn Springs form the ‘spa centre of Victoria’, a fabulous year-round destination where you can soak away your troubles and sip wine by the fireside. The health-giving properties of the area’s mineral springs were first claimed back in the 1870s, attracting droves of fashionable Melburnians. The well-preserved and restored buildings show the prosperity of these towns, as well as the lasting influence of the many Swiss-Italian miners who came to work the tunnel mines in the surrounding hills.
These days the Daylesford region is one of Victoria’s favourite weekend getaways – even if you don’t indulge in a spa treatment, there are plenty of great walks, a fabulous foodie scene and an arty, alternative vibe. The local population is an interesting blend of hippies and old-timers, and there’s also a thriving gay and lesbian scene here.
