Introducing Jabiru
It may seem surprising to find a town of Jabiru’s size and structure in the midst of a wilderness national park, but it exists solely because of the nearby uranium mine. Jabiru was built in 1982 to accommodate workers first at the Jabiluka mine and now the Ranger mine, and is not only the major service centre for Kakadu but a residential area where you can shop, picnic by the lake or play a round of golf.
