This large town on the Gwydir River has the Hot Artesian Pool Complex, where locals frolic in 42°C water; opening hours can vary – ask at the visitor centre. Many accommodation options also have artesian pools.
Moree Plains Gallery has an inspiring collection of Aboriginal art by some of the country's best artists, including Arone Meeks, Dorothy Napangardi, Elizabeth Nyumi Nungurrayi and Judy Watson. For a more local take, check out Yaama Maliyaa Arts; the friendly owner is also a good source of info on local Aboriginal sites.
Café 2400 would be at home in Sydney's groovier suburbs, with healthy (often gluten-free) dishes and good coffee.
Cotton-related work is available from March to May for skilled workers. Anyone can partake in cotton chipping from November to January or olive- and pecan-picking from April to August. The job application process had been put out for tendering when we passed through – ask at the visitor centre on where to start looking.
