We are a group of Swedish globetrotters seriously looking into possibilites of touring mainland Yemen.
We have an on-going dialogue with a Yemeni tour agent called Mohammed Shaif using the e-mail address email@example.com and the website http://www.socotraholidays.com/ who has presented us with an itinerary of about a week.
Has anyone here heard of Mr Shaif or his company? Good or bad? I feel some independent info is needed here before closing any deal with a Yemeni tour agent or…
I was just wondering if anyone has been to Socotra and went for a guided trek recently. If so, I'd like to ask what the locals ask for a trek e.g. for food, accommodation (tent, village), pack animals. I just got a quote for five days which was more expensive than I had to pay in Afghanistan for ten days...
So I successfully flew from Soqotra to Cairo. the flight was packed on both legs of the journey. The only hiccup for people wanting to travel to Soqotra via this route is that all tourist visas have to be cleared by the governor. But the passport/visa office have said they will issue the visas if the governor signs off on them.
So I finally got back to Soqotra by cargo/trading boat from Salalah. 50 hours of chug chug chug at around 10 kph. Tedious but at this time of year not uncomfortable.
The good news today or yesterday depending on your time zone is that a flight made it in from Cairo via Sayuun. My friend who is tour guide here on the island told me that Yemenia are currently running daily flights between Cairo and Sayuun and now potentially once a week the flight will stop for an hour in Sayuun and then continue…
Ever want to travel to Yemen? Well I just returned from a five week journey through Yemen. Sana’a was defiantly one of my biggest highlights. My Sana’a Guide I cover common questions like Safety, How to get a Yemen Visa, and the wonderful Sights of Sana’a. Check out my journey through Yemen! And Follow my website Uncharted Backpacker for more crazy journeys!
Sana'a was very difficult and dangerous to get into as well, there are plenty of security concerns. Send me a message if you need more…
Hey everyone I just returned from a one month trip through Yemen. I crossed the border from Oman with a a local Yemeni Fixer and drove to Seiyun in Hadramaut. I also visited Tarim, Wadi Dawan and Shibam.
From Hadramaut I drove to Marib. Here the security was not as good so I was only able to visit a few of the ancient temples, and one night in the desert. I stayed with a local Bedouin family who kept me safe.
From Marib I my fixer drove me to Sana'a via a remote mountain rode. We stayed one…
If somebody of you have been to Socotra Island recently I am interested in asking about: accommodation, how many days should I spend there and when is the best period of the year to visit this island?
Thank you in advanced!
Lupine travel sends confirmation emails about a trip Socotora in April next year. They claim all is confirmed for two 2 trips in April 2018-both by return boat from Salalah.
What about safety of crossing Arabian sea?
What do you think about this whole idea?
So not really any good news for independent travellers.
It is possible to travel by boat from Salalah to Soqotra. Now that that windy season is over that is a possibility for some brave souls. Best bet is to get in touch with a travel agency on the island and get them to help you set things up. You need to make sure you have a visa for Soqotra before you depart Salalah.
For airtravel the only flights from outside Yemen are Government sponsored flights from Abu Dhabi. You have to get permission…
