Bus services are the most extensive means of public transport in Powys, with regular connections on major routes (such as those run by TrawsCymru) from at least Monday to Saturday (Sundays can be sparsely served) and more sporadic services on the minors. Traveline Cymru (www.traveline.cymru) is the place to plan your journey.
The Heart of Wales Line cuts Powys in two, entering the county near Llanwrtyd Wells and exiting at Knighton. To the north, the Cambrian Line runs from Shrewsbury in England, through Welshpool and Newtown to Machynlleth. While comparatively expensive, both lines are very scenic, and the most pleasant way to travel in Powys. Tickets and timetables can be found at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
