Occupying a smartly renovated former barn with views of Cader Idris and the estuary valley, Mawddach sits 2 miles west of Dolgellau on the A496. Tasteful slate floors and leather seats are matched by excellent food: slow-cooked local pork belly with confit fennel, or roasted hake with greens, garlic and anchovies. The Sunday lunch menu (two/three courses £21/24) is great value.
