National Cycle Route 42 starts at Chepstow and heads northwest through Abergavenny. Route 4 (London, Bristol, Swansea, St Davids) also passes through.
From Chepstow's bus station, frequent 7XP, X74 and 73 services head to/from Newport (£3.80, 30 minutes to 1¼ hours); up to 10 daily 69 services head to/from Tintern (£2.95, 19 minutes) and Monmouth (£4, 45 minutes); and up to 10 7XP services head to/from Bristol (£6, 55 minutes). Sunday services are limited.
National Express (www.nationalexpress.com) has up to four coaches a day to/from London (from £12, three hours), Cardiff (from £4.80, one hour) and Swansea (from £11, two hours).
There are frequent direct trains to/from Newport (£7.60, 23 minutes), Gloucester (£10, 30 minutes) and Cardiff (£10, 40 minutes), but only one direct service per day to Swansea (£17, 1¾ hours) and Fishguard Harbour (£20, 3¾ hours).
