There is a bustling community at the base of Sam Mountain, with hotels (aimed at both visiting Buddhists and business people), guesthouses and restaurants lining the street.

Along with the shrines and tombs, the steep path to the top is lined with the unholy clamour of commerce, and there are plenty of cafes and stalls in which to stop for a drink or a snack. Vegetarian restaurants surround the Tay An Pagoda at the foot of the mountain.
