Is it a bad idea to visit all this in the same day? I mean: is it doable (and not TOO cramped) to visit the Citadel in the morning (or afternoon), have a short lunch, and do a Perfume River tour to see Thien Mu Pagoda and few tombs in the afternoon (or morning - interchangeable)?

How long would you give the Citadel, about 2 to 4 hours? Can I just walk up to the Citadel and visit by ourselves or find a guide at the entrance? Or best to go through the hotel? Any recommendation for a tour that…

OK I haven't done any research yet, so pardon me if my questions aren't particularly well-thought out...

Is it feasible to visit Ha Giang, and spend 3-5 days just walking from village to village? Is there an obvious route that others have taken?

To be clear, I'm not referring to hiking in the mountains with a guide. I'm a talking about spending 4-8 hours/day wandering around, village to village.

I'm looking to spend 3-5 days (or up to a week) walking in Vietnam. I don't mind if some of it is…

We recently returned from a month long trip in Vietnam (our second time to Vietnam). I have a few comments and a recommendation re Ninh Binh and the surrounding sights.
Many folks stay at any of the numerous accommodations in Tam Coc to be closer to the Tam Coc boat trips. We were glad that we stayed in Ninh Binh rather than Tam Coc for several reasons. It was certainly less busy than the Tam Coc area. It allowed us to see the sights in several different directions from Ninh Binh by bicycle…

Hello Lovely Travelers, Expats, and Vietnamese Nationals,

I'm going to be going to Vietnam for 2 months this summer (roughly July and August). I can't wait! It's going to be so awesome. What is a cheap price for an airplane ticket from NYC to Saigon? And a good price from NYC to Hanoi?

I'd really prefer to go to Hanoi first and travel south from there. I'm 41 and I hate the heat- so I'd really like to start in a cooler place and let my body adjust before i get into the hotter climate.

From…

Hi,

I am planning a trip to Kon Tum, and trying to organise visits to Kon Kotu, Plei Chot, and some other villages.

Kon Kotu: I am unable to contact the Kon Kotu homestay. Mostly their number (found on the net) gives an error message (telling me the number does not exist), and once it did come through but the person couldn't speak any English or French. So I google-translated my request into Vietnamese and texted it - still no response...

Plei Chot: described by the Michelin guide as a "must…

Hi,
Looking into this motorbike or scooter tour in north Vietnam. I'll be in the country in June and wondering if it's worth going at that time or skipping? Tour looks great, but I'm concerned about going in the wet season, road conditions with the rain, etc.

Skip because of June or still worth going?

Are there remote areas like ninh binh and mai chau but in the south, with lots of epic nature? Looking for somewhere pretty and quiet to teach english in the south.

Has anyone here tried one of these 2 day treks (with home stay) with children :

  • Sapa –> Y Linh Ho —> Lao Chai —> Ta Van —> Giang Ta Chai. Return to Sapa by car. Total km: 28 in 2 days.

  • Sapa —> Suoi Ho —> Matra —> Ta Phin —> Trung Chai. Return to Sapa by car. Total km: 24 in 2 days.

Was it doable and enjoyable and which one would you suggest?

My kids have done medium 8km treks in gorges and 10-12km walks on flat trails. (However, never two days in a row.) They are 10, 10…

Hey guys!

For tourists, you have a few types of tourist visas you can choose from:

1 month single entry (Valid for 30 days. You cannot hop out of Vietnam. Once you leave, your trip is done. This is the most common visa people get).
1 month multiple entry (You can hop in and out of Vietnam as many times as you want during those 30 days)
3 months single entry (Valid for 90 days. You cannot hop out of Vietnam. Once you leave, your trip is done)
3 months multiple entry (You can hop in and out of…
