Bus

The main roads are usually thick with minibuses between 6am and 7.30pm – this is the only place in Vanuatu where you can get stuck in traffic. In most cases, it’s first in, first dropped off. Fares are a uniform 150VT around town. To travel further afield to, say, Hideaway Island or the Mele Cascades, costs 250VT.

Car & Motorcycle

Major car-hire companies such as Budget, Hertz and Avis have offices in Port Vila.

Go2Rent This is the place to go if you're after more than a car. Rents scooters (5000VT per day), motorbikes (7500VT), quad bikes (6500VT) and beach buggies (11,500VT), including mandatory insurance. All come with unlimited kilometres and discounts for two or more days. Credit cards accepted.

World Car Rentals Good-value car rental with compact cars and 4WDs from 6500VT per day and larger 4WDs from 9500VT.

Taxi

Taxis cost around 500VT for a short trip across town and are only really worth using at night. Vila’s main taxi stand is beside the outdoor market.
