Chaikhanas are the best place for a pot of green or black tea, while espresso coffee can be found in all the main tourist centres. Other nonalcoholic drinks include katyk, a thin yoghurt that comes plain but can be sweetened with sugar or jam.

Despite the country's Muslim veneer, it's easy to find beer, and to a lesser extent wine and spirits, and there's no taboo about drinking it.
