For centuries people from these parts, including Geronimo, have bathed in the area's mineral-laden hot springs. Long said to have therapeutic properties, the waters range from 98°F to 115°F (36°C to 46°C). Since the damming of the Rio Grande upstream, T or C’s springs no longer flow naturally, but anyone can still tap into the underlying hot water by digging on their own property.
Some of T or C's hotels and motels double as spas. Guests soak free, and massages and other treatments are sometimes available. For sheer open-air enjoyment, head for the outdoor tubs at Riverbend Hot Springs. The swankier Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa holds mineral baths, plus a holistic spa offering massage and aromatherapy.
