Welcome to Goliad
'Remember the Alamo!' is the verbal icon of the Texas revolution, but it should also be 'Remember Goliad!' as Goliad is where, on Palm Sunday, March 27, 1836, Mexican general Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered nearly 500 Texan prisoners shot in cold blood. The death toll was double that at the Alamo and helped inspire the Texans in their victory over Santa Anna at San Jacinto the following month.
There is a wealth of historic sites in and around the lovely town of Goliad, making this a must-see stop. It's 26 miles along US 59 from Victoria.
