Meet at the shop in Seward or get picked up from your hotel and head out to the Lowell Point Recreation area, just south of Seward. Unload and outfit the kayaks with the proper gear, including dry bags and zip-lock bags to keep your belongings dry. You'll use stable double kayaks that feature compartments to stash your items.Your guide will provide safety instructions and procedures and go over the basics of sea kayaking with your group. Once you're ready, start paddling south on Resurrection Bay, closely following the shore. It seems that there is as much to see on the shore as there is on the water! Spot otters, eagles, sea lions or bears, or Alaskan salmon as they are getting ready to spawn. This trip will go to Tonsina Creek. Depending on the time, weather, and group, you may continue paddling to Bridal Veil, where you'll park your kayak on the beach, stretch our legs and share snacks and hot drinks. A discussion of the salmon stream and the types of salmon that spawn generally happens here, and your guide can answer your questions. Yes, kayaking can be educational as well as recreational!
