El Adobe de Capistrano

Mexican in San Juan Capistrano

In a building that traces its origins to 1797, this sprawling, beam-ceilinged 'Mexican steakhouse' and bar does a big business in the standards (enchiladas, fajitas) through to blackened fish or lobster tacos, garlic shrimp and grilled steaks. It was a favorite of President Nixon, who lived in nearby San Clemente, which might be good or bad depending on your outlook.

The 'President's choice' combo plate contains a chile relleno, chicken enchilada and beef taco for $18.
