The biggest city in the region, Salisbury is a good base camp if you want to explore the southern reaches of the Eastern Shore or don't want to stay in Ocean City, 30 miles east. It lacks the charm of small towns like Berlin and Easton, but a host of good restaurants and bars make it a solid choice for an overnight stay.

Officially established in 1732 and now the seat of Wicomoco County, Salisbury is the headquarters for Perdue Farms, one of the largest chicken-processing companies in the country. Downtown borders the Wicomoco River and is dotted with restaurants, bars and indie shops. Salisbury University is a short drive south of downtown.
