On the first weekend in July, quiet Quincy is host to this blowout festival, renowned statewide. The four-day extravaganza brings a five-stage smorgasbord of art and music from a spectrum of cultural corners (indie rock, classic blues, folk and jazz). Past acts include Thievery Corporation, Lauryn Hill, Primus, Ben Harper and Neko Case.
Sure, a curmudgeonly local might call it the Hippie Fest, but it’s pretty tame in comparison to some of Northern California’s true fringe festivals. If you plan to attend, reserve a room or campsite a couple of months in advance. For those who don’t want to camp in nearby national-forest land, Susanville, one hour away, will have the largest number of rooms.
