After the Vietnam war, many Vietnamese traveled to America looking for a fresh start. The neighborhood at the intersection of Mills Avenue and Hwy 50 in Orlando became a place where they settled in and started their own community, a "Little Vietnam". This is the largest asian community in Florida, and is rich with food, culture, art and more. This area is now one of Orlando's 10 Main Street Districts, called Mills50, due to the name of the two roads at the main intersection of this community. This 2 mile tour will introduce you to the flavors, sights, and stories of this unique Orlando community. We will take a look at the history, culture, art, and food of this area. You will learn about the areas Vietnamese community, LGBTQ centers, holistic centers, and local art, as well as sample a ton of food and drinks along the way.
The tour will begin at 11AM, so please arrive by 10:45AM. Our meeting location is the parking lot located at the intersection of Woodard Street and Shine Avenue in Orlando. The building next to the parking lot is 1212 Woodward Street Orlando, FL 32803. Your tour guide, Mandy, will meet you there and guide you on the 2 mile walk.Your tour will include a variety of stops, including restaurants, shops, and art exhibits. Plenty of food will be included, so please don't eat before you come. Consider this your lunch for the day.What is included:-guided 3 1/2 hour tour-history of the area-shopping time-LOTS of food!-FUN!This is an outdoor walk, so come prepared for sun or rain. Please bring your sunglasses or hat as well as your umbrella or rain coat. And don't forget to bring cash for shopping as well as gratuity for your host.
