Getting Around

Amtrak trains make it relatively easy to reach destinations north of NYC along the east side of the Hudson River and all the way across to Buffalo and Niagara Falls in the west of the state. There are also relatively frequent buses between major population centers, as well as fairly ubiquitous taxi service, especially with the recent expansion of Uber and Lyft into northern New York state. However, to access all of New York's great outdoors, and particularly areas such as the Catskills, Adirondacks and Finger Lakes, a car is necessary.
