Introduction

Just north of Prospect Park is the small, easygoing neighborhood Prospect Heights, filled with families and young professionals. Broad, tree-lined Eastern Pkwy runs off to the east through Crown Heights, a primarily Caribbean and African American neighborhood with a significant Hasidic Jewish community.

To the east and south are the sedate areas Prospect Lefferts Gardens, Prospect Park South and Ditmas Park, home to many beautiful 19th-century brownstones and houses. Beyond stretches the larger suburban area of Flatbush, one of the original towns founded by Dutch colonists in the mid-1600s.
