Brooklyn Barge

Beer Garden in Brooklyn: Williamsburg, Greenpoint & Bushwick

Greenpoint's newest summer drinking spot isn't just on the waterfront – it's on the water. A floating barge moored to land via a wooden bridge is home to an alfresco bar serving local beers on draft, summery bespoke cocktails and some wines and cider, as well as a menu of plates for sharing, nachos, tacos and sandwiches from the repurposed-shipping-container kitchen.

The barge does rock a bit if a larger boat speeds by, so for the landlubbers there's a more stationary area on-shore with tables and shade umbrellas, in front of an atmospheric, rusted-out warehouse. But the views across the East River from the barge are unbeatable, especially on a warm, clear night, with the Manhattan skyline – the Liberty Tower, the Empire State Building, the Chrysler, etc – arrayed before you.
