Fronted by a classic gold awning, this longtime, 50-room hotel channels a 1930s feel – starting with the vintage elevator. As with many old-timey New York buildings, the rooms and their bathrooms are tiny. But the decor is modern, the staff congenial and the location couldn’t be more ideal – walking distance from Central Park and many museums.
In addition, wine and cheese are served in the evenings – very civilized. Rooms facing the back are quieter.
