New York City Center

Dance in Midtown

This Moorish, red-domed landmark hosts dance troupes (including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater), theater productions, the New York Flamenco Festival in February or March and the popular Fall for Dance Festival in September or October.

Once known as Mecca Temple and used by the Shriners, it almost went the way of the wrecking ball in 1943, but was saved by preservationists, only to face extinction again when its major ballet companies departed for Lincoln Center.
